Pity Party for the Pansies
I was riding in the car one afternoon when an interesting piece came on the radio (NPR no doubt). The announcer was saying that many men are feeling immasculated. One, two, three, ahhhhhh. Poor babies. I know it is rough for men to deal with the fact that we no longer need them in order to own property, pay bills, drive our cars, VOTE. But, if the fact that women are finally getting to the point of being treated as equals (and we are not there yet folks), makes these men feel immasculated...well then, let them start a commune and console themselves together. Give me a break. Just because we do not NEED men in the same way as the old days (the dark ages) does not mean we do not want or need men around these days. It just means their roles have changed. And if a man must be the king of his domain in order to "feel like a man" well, geez buddy, maybe you need to go cry it out.

Leave it to NPR to legitimize this type of misogynistic bellyaching in an effort to be 'fair and balanced'. A few years ago, a family member was telling me how James Dobson was on this soapbox, complaining that modern sitcoms (like 'according to Jim' or 'King of Queens') were unbiblical and threatening to 'traditional American family values' because the men portrayed in them were buffoonish, and the women were slightly less buffoonish. I don't buy it, these men need to learn that the world does not revolve around their anatomy or their egos, and perhaps they need to do some introspection and analysis to try and understand why it is that they feel so threatened by the rising social status of others who aren't part of their demographic group.
